Publishing & Release of Handbook - Improved methods of vegetable and medicinal plants

This noble activity was proposed through UYRDC with support from TIFAC. During project implementation it was felt the need to document issues faced by participating growers in the ground on agronomics and polyhouse management across agroclimatic zones of Sub tropical, Warm Temperate & Cold Temperate. A handbook was proposed for publishing agroclimate specific measures to beneficiaries. The book would offer userfriendly understanding and measures of technological methods in dialect Hindi to agrarian community in the region aswell as other parts of the state. For the purpose Handbook in Hindi on ‘Improved methods of vegetable and medicinal plants cultivation in hilly areas’ was published during August 2005 with 1500 copies for distribution to farmers.

The book is being made available to participating beneficiaries free of cost and to others it was sold at a nominal price of Rs.25/-. Technical inputs were provided and revised with able guidance of Dr.Subodh Joshi, Principal Scientist, Division of Vegetable Crops, IARI, Pusa, New Delhi & Dr.M.C.Nautiyal, Scientist, HAPPRC, H.N.B.Garhwal Univeristy, Srinagar Garhwal.

Release & Distribution of Handbook:

It was decided to release the handbook on an important occasion before making it available to farmers. The book was released on the grand event Kisan mela “The Pinder Ghati Krishi Mahotsav” on the 13th of November 2005 by Honourable chief guest of the day Padamshree Prof. A. N. Purohit. On the auspicious day were also present regional MLA Shri Govind Lal, Dr.T.Chakradhar, TIFAC, New Delhi, Dr.A.R.Nautiyal & Dr.M.C.Nautiyal, HAPPRC, Scientists from State Horticulture Department, and chief functionary Shri.Vikas Dhawan, M/S Dhawan International. The handbook received immense appreciation from participating farmers.

The book was also exhibited at Gaucher Trade fair, the largest fair in the district Chamoli which attracted many farmers. Distribution of handbook was also done through various regional meetings and seminars organised in the valley time to time.
